When the car ahead is too close for comfort, the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist utilises front radar sensors and the windshield mounted camera to detect the proximity. It can also pick up pedestrians and cyclists that are travelling in front and will automatically apply the vehicle’s brakes in the case of a potential collision.

Available only on Elite & Highlander variants.

When the car ahead is too close for comfort, the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist utilises the windshield mounted camera to detect the proximity. It can detect the proximity of the car in front of you and will automatically apply the vehicle’s brakes in the case of a potential collision.

When driving at a speed of 30km/h or higher, the BCW function will alert the driver to vehicles that enter the blind spot, including during lane changes.

A steering assist function that detects lane markings to monitor the vehicle’s position in the lane. Should the vehicle stray from the intended lane without activating the indicators, an audible and visual warning will be sounded and where required, will provide steering intervention to keep the vehicle in the centre of the lane.

Reversing out of carparks just became easier. When in reverse, the rear sensors are activated to monitor approaching traffic existing parking spots. When a vehicle approaches a blind-spot, an audible warning will sound along with a visual in the dash cluster.

A driver protection feature which helps monitor driving patterns in order to detect reckless or fatigued driving and prevent potential accidents. The system analyses various vehicle signals such as steering angle, steering torque, vehicle's positioning in the lane and driving time. If the system detects inattentive driving patterns, an audible sound and message on the display panel will bring this to the driver’s attention.

Having the right tyre pressure is more than just good for your tyres and fuel economy – it’s a safety issue too. The Kona’s Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) displays the pressure for each individual tyre on the instrument cluster, warning the driver if pressure drops.

Thanks to heat treatment processes, Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) is up to 10% lighter than, and twice as rigid, as conventional mild steel. Kona’s lightweight body frame features significantly high levels of AHSS, totalling an impressive 51.8%, resulting in exceptional torsional rigidity and leading levels of passive safety.

The Gamma 1.6 Turbo-GDi engine uses a mixed-flow turbocharger that delivers sharp throttle response, impressive low-end torque, as well as surprising fuel economy. With an impressive output of 130 kW of power and 265 Nm of torque available over a wide 1,500 rpm – 4,500 rpm torque band, the Gamma 1.6 T-GDi offers 18% more power and 47% more torque than the 2.0 MPi engine.

The Nu 2.0 MPi engine uses Atkinson cycle technology to deliver improved fuel economy as a result of the unit’s greater thermal efficiency. Furthermore, with a power output of 110kW and 180 Nm of torque, everyday driveability is ensured.

Available exclusively on the the Gamma 1.6 T-GDi, the 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) combines the fuel efficiency of a manual transmission with the convenience of an automatic transmission. The DCT is responsive during spirited driving (particularly when down-shifting), yet still offers the smooth-shifting characteristics that are desired for everyday commuting.
